/api/v1/stream/status returned "fps": 10 whenever tick > 1, whatever the
real rate, and both it and /health counted every broadcast subscriber
(recorder, MQTT bridge) as a client. The dashboard Streaming card read
"IDLE, 0 client(s)" for up to 30 s while the page was streaming, because
its first /health poll lands before the page's socket connects; with auth
on, the ticket round-trip widens that gap.
- New stream_stats module: UpdateRateMeter (sliding 5 s window, bounded at
1024 samples) and WsClientCounter with an RAII guard.
- AppStateInner::advance_tick() replaces the five `s.tick += 1` sites and
records each sensing update in the meter.
- /api/v1/stream/status now returns the measured update rate as `fps`
(0 when nothing flows), `active` from that rate, `clients` from the
WebSocket counter, `nodes` with each fresh node's measured csi_fps (null
until its EMA has 5 samples) and `csi_fps_total`.
- /health and the /health/health stream component count WebSocket clients
on /ws/sensing and /api/v1/stream/pose; the stream component also carries
the measured rate.
- DashboardTab re-reads health 500 ms after the sensing socket connects or
drops, so the card follows the socket instead of waiting for the next
30 s poll.

With RUVIEW_API_TOKEN set on the server and no token in the browser, the
sensing socket was refused, closed with 1006, and retried forever while the
header said "Connecting...". A browser cannot see the 401 on a refused
upgrade, so the service could not tell this from an outage.
- ws-ticket.js: resolveWsUrl() reports a stored token the server refuses
(401/403) as 'rejected'. probeWsAuthRequired() repeats the ticket request
with no bearer after an unticketed socket fails to open; a 401 means the
server wants a token this browser does not have ('missing'). The probe
only runs on the failure path, so auth-off servers see no extra request.
withWsTicket() keeps its string contract for the other callers.
- sensing.service.js: new 'auth-required' state and dataSource. Entering it
clears the retry timer; reconnect() leaves it.
- The header widget shows "Token required", the global banner explains it,
and both open QuickSettings on API Access (once automatically per page
load, then on click). Tab banners and the dashboard indicator get labels.
- Tests: ws-ticket.test.mjs (+6) and a new sensing.service.test.mjs (5),
added to the CI UI test step.

The dashboard flip-flopped between "absent" and "present_still" after
navigating away and back. The cause was not sensing. On a dropped socket the
client fell back to a built-in simulation and rendered synthetic values that
were indistinguishable from live ones, so the UI was showing made-up readings
and saying nothing about it.
That is the most damaging failure this UI can have. A sensing system that
invents data silently is worse than one that shows nothing, because every
downstream judgement -- including which nodes to move and whether a change
helped -- is then made against fiction.
Changes:
- Client-side simulation is default-OFF and must be opted into explicitly.
- An unreachable server retries forever instead of substituting data.
- A banner states plainly whenever what is displayed is not live. The
labels say what they mean: "NO DATA - SERVER UNREACHABLE" for an
unreachable server, and "INVENTED DATA - NOT MEASURED" for simulation,
replacing "OFFLINE - CLIENT SIMULATION", which read like a status rather
than a warning.
Also fixes a reconnect race in the same path: two in-flight connects could each
install handlers, so a stale socket kept overwriting fresher state. That race is
what made the flip-flop intermittent and hard to attribute.

Completes ADR-186 phases P5 (dashboard honesty / fallback guarantee) and P6
(tests + witness) on top of the P1–P4 reconnection, and flips the ADR to Accepted.
P5 — dashboard honesty:
- Backend (training_api): a runtime enablement gate (`RUVIEW_DISABLE_SERVER_TRAINING`)
makes the three start endpoints return a structured `{enabled:false, reason,
cli:"wifi-densepose train-room"}` HTTP 409 (never a silent success) when server
training is disabled; `/api/v1/train/status` now carries an `enabled` flag. A runtime
flag (not a Cargo feature) so `--no-default-features` builds keep training ON (resolves
§9.4). Handlers return `Response` to carry the 409.
- Frontend (TrainingPanel.js): reads `enabled` off the status payload and disables the
Start/Pretrain/LoRA buttons with a CLI tooltip when server training is off; a rejected
start tears down the optimistically-opened WS and refreshes. The enabled path was
already fully wired (opens the WS before POST, renders live epoch/loss/ETA + terminal
state) — verified.
P6 — tests & witness:
- New HTTP-level tests in a `#[cfg(test)] mod adr186_http_tests` built on a minimal
`AppStateInner::minimal()` test-state helper: a live-socket test that completes a
genuine 101 WebSocket handshake (tokio-tungstenite) and receives a real progress frame
after a POST start; a 426-not-404 route-wired check; a full POST→poll-status→`.rvf`-exists
round-trip; and the disabled-409 structured-response test. Added `tokio-tungstenite`
dev-dep (version already in the workspace lock).
- CHANGELOG updated; ADR §6 ledger + §7 acceptance criteria checked off with evidence;
Status → Accepted. README/CLAUDE have no training route table (no edit needed).
Fixed a test-only parallelism race found under `cargo test --workspace`: two
model-writing tests deleted `.rvf`s by directory-diff and could remove a file a third
test asserted existed. Each test now cleans only its own artifact (data/models is
gitignored).
Verified this session: `cargo test -p wifi-densepose-sensing-server -p wifi-densepose-train
--no-default-features` — sensing-server bin 217 passed / 0 failed, all train suites 0
failed. Full `--workspace` re-run in progress to reconfirm untouched crates.

color-coded markers, RSSI, variance, and classification per node.
- Colored node markers in 3D gaussian splat view (8-color palette).
- Per-node RSSI history tracking in sensing service.

- RSSI sign fix: ensure dBm values are always negative.
- GET /api/v1/nodes endpoint for per-node health monitoring.
- node_features field in WebSocket SensingUpdate messages.
- Firmware watchdog fix: yield after every frame to prevent IDLE1 starvation.

- Replace simulated training with real signal-based training loop
- Load actual CSI data from .csi.jsonl recordings or live frame history
- Extract 180 features per frame: subcarrier amplitudes, temporal variance,
Goertzel frequency analysis (9 bands), motion gradients, global stats
- Train calibrated linear CSI-to-pose mapping via mini-batch gradient descent
with L2 regularization (ridge regression), Xavier init, cosine LR decay
- Self-supervised: teacher targets from derive_pose_from_sensing() heuristics
- Real validation metrics: MSE and PCK@0.2 on 80/20 train/val split

- Add infer_pose_from_model() for live inference from trained model
- 16 new tests covering features, training, inference, serialization
UI fixes:
- Fix double-URL bug in model.service.js and training.service.js

* fix: WebSocket onOpen race condition, data source indicators, auto-start pose detection
- Fix WebSocket onOpen race condition in websocket.service.js where
setupEventHandlers replaced onopen after socket was already open,
preventing pose service from receiving connection signal
- Add 4-state data source indicator (LIVE/SIMULATED/RECONNECTING/OFFLINE)
across Dashboard, Sensing, and Live Demo tabs via sensing.service.js
- Add hot-plug ESP32 auto-detection in sensing server (auto mode runs
both UDP listener and simulation, switches on ESP32_TIMEOUT)
- Auto-start pose detection when backend is reachable
- Hide duplicate PoseDetectionCanvas controls when enableControls=false

- Dark backgrounds, muted text, consistent border opacity throughout
- Estimation Mode badge colors adjusted for dark background contrast
Co-Authored-By: claude-flow <ruv@ruv.net>
- Docker default changed from --source simulated to --source auto

- Pose derivation now driven by real sensing features: motion_band_power,
breathing_band_power, variance, dominant_freq_hz, change_points
- Temporal feature extraction: 100-frame circular buffer, Goertzel
breathing rate estimation (0.1-0.5 Hz), frame-to-frame L2 motion
detection, SNR-based signal quality metric
- Signal field driven by subcarrier variance spatial mapping instead
of fixed animation circle
- UI data source indicators: LIVE/RECONNECTING/SIMULATED banner on
sensing tab, estimation mode badge on live demo tab
