The click haptic latch re-armed only once contact area fell to an absolute idle level (<=1000) for eight frames. Contact area only gets that low when the thumb leaves the pad, so tapping a pad the way you walk down a menu — thumb planted, pressure modulating — left the latch waiting for a release that never came, and every press after the first went unfelt. Lifting clear of the pad was the only way to feel the next one. Measured rather than reasoned: TrackpadZoneProbe's tap mode replays the real latch over recorded presses, and a genuine two-tap burst had the gap between them bottom out at 1236 against a threshold of 1000, with the second press duly swallowed. A thumb resting between taps sits around 2500. Release now confirms on the click bit holding false for four frames, matching how the press edge already works. The original reason for distrusting the bit was chatter around the firmware's force threshold, which a confirmation window answers the same way it answers it on press. Area was not just unnecessary but backwards for this: grinding a hard press dips it to 1000-2000, LOWER than the planted thumb between taps that has to count as a release, so no absolute threshold separates the two. Duration does — the same probe measured a real gap holding the bit low for 18 frames, well clear of four. Predates the directional pad work; a pad clicked like a mouse button is released by lifting off, so nothing before now tapped one fast enough to notice.
