This is editing comments, so they're subjective which should make the change easier to swallow in terms of impact.
I found that downloading tracks can put them in to the same folder as an album you've already downloaded, just with a different naming strategy.
Personally, I feel that if I'm downloading a single I don't want to pollute a full album with other things, especially if they're the same but named differently.
I would argue that since album.artist is already used then this should be item.artist as , in the case of 'various artists' you want to know the individual artist, and album.artist is already in the template
