Highlights
- NFC/RFID tags. Spools and filaments can now have tags linked to them. A tag is keyed on its hardware UID alone, so blank NTAG stickers work, and so do read-only vendor tags like Bambu, Creality, Qidi and Prusa. A reader posts to
/tag/scanand gets the matching spool or filament back. If you pair a browser with a reader in Settings > Tag Scanning, that browser jumps to the item when you tap the tag. On Android over HTTPS the phone can read tags itself, no reader needed. See the wiki for reader setup with ESPHome and Home Assistant: https://github.com/Donkie/Spoolman/wiki/Tag-scanners - The library filter menu shows colours and materials and lets you pick several values at once. You can also show filaments you have no spools of.
- The SpoolmanDB search in the filament pickers now pages through its results, so you're no longer stuck with the first batch.
- The add flow separates manufacturer, filament and spool into clear steps. It also offers quick-pick roll sizes and lets you create a new filament while changing what a spool holds.
- The library remembers its grouping and sorting, has resizable columns and can filter by date. Its long toolbar menus are now searchable.
- Label export now supports AML.
- Numeric fields accept decimal commas everywhere.
Notable fixes
- SQLite searches are now case-insensitive for non-ASCII characters too (#1078 by @romasku).
- Measuring a spool now falls back to the manufacturer's empty spool weight when the spool and filament don't set one (#1164 by @Niko11111).
- The dashboard total weight now shows spool weight instead of filament weight (#1113 by @itCarl).
- Writing a backup now closes the SQLite connections it opens (#1104 by @jpapiez).
- Filtering on a location or other text value that contains a comma now works.
- Labels printed on sheets now keep the right size, shape and orientation.

🏷️ Git tag created: Fri, 31 Jul 2026 08:19:20 GMTSpoolman has a new web client. It's a rewrite from scratch, and from this release on it's what you get by default. It's faster, much better phone compatibility, and it brings a pile of things the old client couldn't do:
- New Library view, that combines the old manufacturer/filament/spool pages into a single unified view. Much better user experience, and no longer do you need to mess with wide column problems.
- Much better support for adding and maintaining large number of spools. The library collapses unused spools, the add spool form lets you add many spools in an easier way, etc.
- New unified spool adding flow, add both spool, filament and manufacturer info in one go.
- Custom label designs, a new editor lets you design the labels in much better detail.
- Free text search with color-similarity support.
- Locations page has been renamed to "Dashboard" instead, and it can now group spools by not only Location, but any spool-based extra field. So it can be used to organize by status, etc.
- Full mobile support, with proper button sizes and an UI that reshapes itself to fit any size of screen.
- And many more small quality of life improvements throughout the frontend.
The old React client still ships in every image. If the new one misbehaves on your setup, set
SPOOLMAN_LEGACY_CLIENT=TRUEto go back to it. Both talk to the same API, so your data is untouched either way. Please open an issue if you have to do that, so it can be fixed.The new frontend having been made from scratch does mean a lot of text needs to be translated again, but I've tried reusing old translations as much as possible.
Frontend
- Brand new web client, served by default. Both clients ship in the image,
SPOOLMAN_LEGACY_CLIENT=TRUEswitches back to the old one.
Backend
- New cross-entity search endpoint. Search now matches every whitespace-separated term, matches filaments by their vendor's name, and can also search by color similarity!
- Rename a field value, location, material, and so on, across every spool at once.
- The external filament library's display name is now configurable via
EXTERNAL_DB_NAME. - Performance: extra fields load in a single extra query instead of a join, color similarity search scales with the number of matches rather than the catalog size, and editing a filament no longer fans out one websocket message per spool.
- Security hardening: cross-origin writes and websockets are refused, CORS credentials are dropped under a wildcard origin, CSV export values are escaped against formula injection, extra-field sizes are bounded, and there's an opt-in host guard.
- Backup rotation no longer deletes your restore history.
- Fixed a 500 on
/infowhen the external database name couldn't be resolved. - Malformed sort parameters return 400 instead of 500.
- Extra field values can be cleared again.
- Builds now run on Node 24 and Vite 8.

Spoolman development has slowed down considerably last year, due to multiple personal reasons from my side. Here is an update with all the things that have accumulated over the last months. Most of the updates are from contributions from the community, many thanks!
There's been many significant dependency version updates in this update. Please report any new issues you find. If anything is breaking your ability to use it, it's safe to go back to the previous version (22.1) until it has been addressed.
What's Changed
- Improved standalone install script. It now automatically downloads and installs the best Python version for you. This means Spoolman should now support a lot more distributions, and you don't need to fix any Python versions or other packages beforehand!
- Spoolman docker images are now officially published on dockerhub!

- Added a new Locations page that shows an overview of your spools and where they are. You can move Spools around, add new locations, etc, from here.

Backend
- Update gitattributes to preserve LF line endings on the
.env.examplefile by @uro666 in https://github.com/Donkie/Spoolman/pull/497 - Added REST API to export spools, filaments or vendors as CSV or JSON. No frontend made for this yet. See the API docs on how to use this.
- Server logs now have a more consistent format for the different logging sources. This also fixes so the LOGGING_LEVEL variable is respected.
- Fixed vendor with spool weight 0 not being allowed in response structure, causing errors if you added a vendor with spool weight 0.
